[ARCHIVED] In- Person Absentee Voting Begins September 23 for General Election

September 20 is National Voter Registration Day

Are you registered to vote? Now is a great time to do so if you plan to cast a ballot in the 2022 general election.

Registering to vote is easy

Minnesota makes it easy to check your voter registration status, register to vote, and update your registration at mnvotes.org.

Already registered? It's still a good idea to confirm your registration is correct and up to date. You will need to update your registration if you’ve moved or changed your name since the last time you voted.

Pre-registration for the November 2022 election ends October 18. If you plan to vote but miss this deadline, you can register at your polling place on Election Day by showing proof of residence. Find out what you need to register on Election Day at mnvotes.org.

Want to vote early by mail?

Fill out your ballot from the comfort of your home with an absentee ballot by mail.  

Apply online or print and complete an absentee ballot application (PDF) and return it via mail, email or drop it off.

Election Day is November 8, but you don't have to wait to cast your ballot.

What to do before you vote

Now is the best time to take a few steps to make your voting experience as smooth as possible.

1. Register to vote at mnvotes.org.

  • Already registered? It's still a good idea to confirm your registration is correct and up to date.
  • You will need to update your registration if you’ve moved or changed your name since the last time you voted.
  1. Find out which candidates and questions you'll be voting on by viewing your sample ballot.
  2. Choose how you want to vote.
    • Fill out your ballot from the comfort of your home with an absentee ballot by mail. You can do so by filling out an application on mnvotes.org.
    • If you'd rather vote early in-person, you have a few options:
      1. Hennepin County Government Center (skyway level)
      2. Your local elections office (check with your city clerk for location and hours)
      3. Minneapolis Early Voting Center (Minneapolis residents)
