The City currently has two vacancies for the Heritage Preservation Commission and one vacancy for the Planning Commission.
The Excelsior Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) is charged with identifying and recommending for preservation the important architectural elements of Excelsior's history. The seven commissioners are Excelsior residents, appointed by the mayor with the approval of the City Council. Commissioners receive no compensation for their service.
The Planning Commission consists of seven residents of the City appointed by the City Council. This advisory commission has the primary responsibility for planning and zoning matters, as they relate to the overall general welfare and development of the community. They review and provide recommendations to the City Council on such items as: redevelopment proposals, rezoning, planned unit developments, subdivisions, conditional use permits, variances, and design reviews.
